NICC Calmar is getting a $61,410 grant from the Iowa Department of Agriculture to help pay for projects to alleviate the runoff from the IOwa Dairy Center.
Ag Secretary Bill Northey announced the grant to NICC as one of nine Urban Conservation Water Quality Initiative Demonstration Projects receiving a total of $655,194 in state funding.
The Demonstration Urban Conservation Projects at NICC will include construction of an infiltration trench, a rain garden, a permeable pavement parking lot and gutters to direct water to these installations.
The projects will focus on capturing stormwater and allowing it to be absorbed into the ground to reduce water quality degradation, stream flows and flooding.
As part of the project, NICC will create outreach/education components to disseminate information to promote increased awareness and adoption of available practices and technologies for achieving reductions in nutrient loads to surface waters.
