Winneshiek County Community Foundation awards $113,080 in grants

Winneshiek County Community Foundation has awarded $113,080 in grants to nonprofit organizations for projects in Winneshiek County.

A total of 41 grant applications were reviewed by WCCF, with 28 getting funding:

  • Winneshiek County Agricultural Association – Handicapped Parking Made Easier – construct a permanent handicapped parking area inside the Fairgrounds - $5,000
  • Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity – Tools for Building Habitat Homes – funding of tools for use by volunteers to build housing units - $4,625
  • City of Fort Atkinson (Fire Department) – 2015 Ft. Atkinson Fire Department Bunker Gear – purchase bunker gear (ie. pants, coats, boots) for the 2 newest fire fighters - $3,600
  • City of Decorah (Decorah Public Library) – Decorah Library Biblionix Apollo Automation – move to Biblionix Apollo Web based public library automation software - $1,800
  • City of Decorah (Decorah Police Department) – Decorah Police Department Cameras – equip all Decorah police officers with body worn cameras capable of video & audio documentation of contact with persons - $3,800
  • Decorah Quilts of Valor – 2015 Veterans Day Presentation – award QOVs to 12 Winneshiek County veterans - $3,364
  • Toys Go 'Round Toy Lending Library – Toys Go 'Round 2015 - purchase toys that will serve the needs of children with sensory challenges - $2,650
  • St. Francis deSales School – Renovation Project – continue previous updates and remodel the lounge and work room bathrooms - $4,737
  • Winneshiek County (Frankville Township) – Frankville Township Community Center Roof Replacement – replace the roof on the Community Center / Fire Station - $6,000
  • Winneshiek County (Winneshiek County Conservation Board) – Conservation Board: Outdoor Recreation Equipment Updates and Improvements – provide free outdoor recreation programs to schools and to youth groups on archery, canoeing, cross-country skiing & fishing - $5,000
  • Greater Area Pantry – Updating the Pantry – develop a privacy panel; obtain chairs & office furniture for a new room at the pantry; develop additional shelving in storage room - $1,506
  • St. Wencenslaus Parish (St. Wencenslaus Church) – Repair Church Clock Tower – repair the four sided clock in the church tower - $1,500
  • Luther College – AEDs in Luther College Performance Spaces – purchase two automated external defibrillators (AED) for response to a medical emergency - $3,000
  • Porter House Museum - Holding Back the Tide: Restoration at the Porter House – repair damaged interior walls, repair concrete steps & walkways, repair historic fish pond & expand gutter system - $5,851
  • Laura Ingalls Wilder Park & Museum – Retaining Walls – build a new retaining wall to stabilize the sidewalk and fence - $2,800
  • City of Calmar (Calmar Fire Department) – Calmar Fire Department Equipment Update – provide fire gear for two new fire fighters; purchase forced entry rescue tools & new water nozzles - $6,000
  • Aase Haugen Senior Services – CNA STEP, Nursing LAST Programs – fund course material production and obtain training equipment for training classes - $5,250
  • First Lutheran Church – Farmers Market Coupon Program for Food Pantry Clients – reimburse farmers for the coupons provided to income-limited individuals that purchase items at the Farmers Market - $4,500
  • City of Decorah (Decorah Parks & Recreation) – Decorah Swimming Pool Water Slide Project – install a new water slide at swimming pool - $6,000
  • St. Benedict School – Renovation Project – continue previous updates and remodel the lounge and work room bathrooms - $6,000
  • Ossian Senior Hospice – Ossian Senior Hospice Lobby Entrance Remodel – replace two steps & build up the railing wall with concrete to make safer; remove outdoor carpet and cover with decorative cement - $2,500
  • City of Ossian (Ossian Crown Club) – The City of Ossian Educational and Performance Pavilion – cement foundation for the new Ossian Education & Performance Pavilion - $6,000
  • City of Decorah (Northeast Iowa RSVP Volunteer Program) – RSVP in Winneshiek County – provide funds for volunteer support expenses and volunteer insurance - $1,900
  • Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission – Food and Fitness Fun in Winneshiek County – purchase Bike Rodeo equipment; have helmet giveaways; purchase school garden supplies - $4,000
  • Winneshiek Pheasants Forever – Wildlife, Soil, and Water Conservation Drill – obtain prairie drills for seeding; cover crop planting and legume interseeding in hayfields - $6,000
  • Our Lady of Seven Dolars – Carillon Chime Fund – refurbish the broken Carillon Chimes at the church parish - $2,500
  • Cedar Valley Friends of the Family – Safe Shelter & Housing Stability – provide emergency supportive services for victims of domestic violence & sexual assault - $1,500
  • Winneshiek County (Winneshiek County Recycling Department) – Recycling Center Signage – install a large illuminated sign at the center for traffic seeking the facility - $5,697
