Tourism has a $29 million impact on Winneshiek County.  That's the conclusion of the latest report from the Iowa Tourism Bureau.

The figure represents a $2 million increase from the previous year.  The report says tourist-related businesses in Winneshiek County employed 330 people in 2012 and paid wages of almost $5 million.  In addition, local tourist businesses paid $1.6 million in state taxes in 2012.

While Decorah and Winneshiek County have become important tourist destinations in recent years, they are outdone by Allamakee County, where tourism has an estimated $39 million impact.
