Decorah PTO volunteers are working on "Spell-a-Thon 2015" in an effort to raise money for the Decorah Schools. Students in grades K-6 will be collecting pledges over the next few weeks from family, friends and neighbors. Spelling tests will be given to all students the week of April 13th.
All students in grades K-6 who return their completed pledge envelope will have their name entered into a drawing at their school for a gift certificate from a local merchant. The classroom that collects the most pledges at each school will be awarded a pizza party and the student who raises the most pledges will receive a $100 bill and an invitation to open their own savings account at Decorah Bank and Trust.
In 2011 this event raised approximately $28,000, and nearly $31,000 in 2013.
Money raised by past spellathons supplemented Decorah Schools Library Collections, West Side/Community Natural Playground, Kid Striders, College Scholarships, a spotlight in the Carrie Lee Elementary Auditorium and teacher specific requests at each school.
Proceeds from this year's fundraiser will help fund upcoming author visits, special events, theatre performances, the Back-to-School Pool Party, and other general needs and purposes of our schools.
