The Decorah Fire Department has released information about a gas leak at a home on East Main Street Tuesday night.
At 9:28 p.m. the Decorah Fire Department was notified to stand by and assist Black Hills Energy and the Decorah Police Department for a reported natural gas leak at a house at 301 East Main Street.
Decorah firefighters and police officers evacuated the residents of an approximate one block square area around the house while Black Hills employees searched for the source of the gas leak.
The gas smell was determined to be coming from the home at 301 E. Main Street, which was unoccupied. All utilities were shut off and that residence was ventilated. At 11:50 p.m., after it was determined to be safe, all residents were allowed to go back to their homes.
The Decorah Fire Department was assisted by the Decorah Police Department, Decorah/Winneshiek County Communication Center, Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy and Winneshiek County Ambulance Service.
