There's been another delay in the trial in Winneshiek County of Anthony Fazzino, accused of first degree murder in the death of his wife.
The trial was originally moved to Decorah in December of 2013 because of pretrial publicity in Boone County, where the charges originate. A trial date was postponed three times earlier.
The latest postponement--the fourth overall--comes because a judge has granted Fazzino's motion that the trial be delayed because his 5-year-old daughter will have a bone marrow transplant at the end of March and Fazzino wants to be with her during the operation and recovery. The judge said the reason for granting the delay was "compelling."
However, according to the Ames Tribune, prosecutors told the judge they might not be available for a rescheduled trial until August because of scheduling conflicts. They asked the judge to consider "when this will end," adding, "At some point the trial … must take place."
