The warm weather Northeast IOwa is having could pay off in another way.  Winneshiek County Conservation Executive Director Barb Schroeder says work on the Freeport Trail will begin "as soon as the ground dries out."

Work will also begin on improvements to Freeport Park, which is part of the project.  Plans call for the park to get a butterfly garden, a natural playground, an upgraded shelter, a kisok, new benches and a bike fix-it station--assuming the funds can be raised to pay for the improvements.

Schroeder says her agency has been active in filling out grant applications.  The project has already won a grant from the Arlin Falck Foundation, as well as many local donations to the Trails From Freeport group.
