The Winneshiek County Board has approved a $24.4 million budget for 2015-2016 for county government. The action came Monday following a brief public hearing attended by around 20 people.
County Board Chair John Logsdon said "not much has changed" in the FY 2016 budget from this year's budget. The biggest difference is the additional $850,000 the county will get from the State of Iowa because of the increase in the state's road use tax by ten cents. "We'll get a lot of work done (this year)," said Logsdon, who pointed out the supervisors spent a good deal of time Monday morning going over possible road projects.
The budget increases property tax asking by 2.47 percent, with the property tax rate staying largely the same, but with more property taxes being collected because of higher property valuations.
