Copies of "A Sand County Almanac" by Aldo Leopold are now available for checkout at the Decorah Public Library front desk or may be purchased from a local bookseller for a discussion to be held Thursday, March 26th at 6:30 p.m. in the basement of the Decorah Public Library.
The Conservation Book Club is hosted by Winneshiek County Conservation and the Decorah Public Library. It focuses on readings related to and inspired by conservation, sustainability, and the natural world.
First published in 1949 and considered one of the most important texts of the environmental movement, "A Sand County Almanac" combines some of the finest nature writing since Thoreau with an outspoken and highly ethical regard for America's relationship to the land. The book describes the seasonal changes in the central the Wisconsin countryside, as well as a concluding section in which Leopold presents his famous, groundbreaking, and still influential ideas on ecology, wildlife conservation, and ethics.
