"Shelved," an exhibit of food-based paintings created by Matthew Drissell, will go on display Friday in the Center for Faith and Life Gallery on the Luther College campus.
Much of Drissell's work lately considers the nature of agriculture and sustainability. Drissell constructed the paintings in "Shelved" using processed treats, melted onto the canvas and fused together with industrial chemicals. These works are meant to both attract and revolt audiences, and explore the legacy of the industrial food system.
Drissell is an associate professor of art at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.He holds a bachelor's degree in studio art from Wheaton College, an art teaching certification from Cardinal Stritch University and a master's degree in painting from the New York Academy of Art.
