Decorah will be visited by an estimated 5,000 people next weekend.

Just for Kix in Decorah is hosting a dance competition at Luther College on Saturday, March 14th.  Organizer Juli Knutson tells decorahnews.com it's the first year the competition has been held in Decorah.  She says dance groups from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Illinois have registered to attend.

Knutson expects 1,000 dancers to participate and 4,000 spectators to come to town to watch the competition.

The competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Regents Center and run until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14th.  There will be approximately 100 performances that day.  The competition is open to the public, with tickets $6 for adults and $3 for students.

Teams will compete in many different styles of dance including Kick, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Lyrical.  Dancers range from 4th grade to 12th grade.  They train weekly with their teams with the philosophy of "Doing your Best, rather than Being the Best."

Just for Kix in Decorah has held dance competitions in previous years at Wartburg College in Waverly, but Knutson says it will be good to hold the competition in Decorah this year.

Knutson been directing the Decorah Just For Kix program for 16 years and has instructed over 1,000 dancers in her classes, with many of those dancers winning awards at competitions such as the one March 14th in Decorah.
