February was--you guessed it--cold and dry in Decorah

Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz has confirmed what we all suspected--it was very cold in Decorah in February.

Bernatz says the average temperature for the month was 11.9 degrees--8.1 degrees cooler than the historical average.  In addition, 22 out of the 28 days in February in Decorah had a high temperature that was below average.  In fact, four days set temperature records, including the low of 23 degrees below zero on February 27th.

While February was cold, it was NOT snowy.  Decorah got 0.46 inches of precipitation on February 1st, but then received just 0.36 inches the rest of the month.  However, Decorah remains almost two inches higher than normal for precipitation during the last 12 months.
