The Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking volunteers to help staff its Visitor Center on Water Street is open to answer questions regarding lodging, events, restaurants and attractions.

A volunteer application form is available to anyone interested in serving as a tourism host. Call 563-382-2023 or stop by the Visitor Center at 507 W. Water St. for more information.  A volunteer orientation workshop will be held Monday, March 16th, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Visitor Center.

The Visitor Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.

WCCVB Director Charlene Selbee says there has been a surge in the number of people visiting the Visitor Center.  She says the  popularity of the eagle's nest has not slowed down, with many out of town visitors.  Selbee adds that national media articles that ran in Forbes Magazine, USA Today, Mother Earth News, MSN.com, Chicago Tribune and others, have also increased traffic.

Selbee says if enough volunteers sign up to work at the Center, additional hours, possibly including Thursday and Friday evenings, could be added to the calendar.

"Many visitors to Decorah and Winneshiek County have their very first experience at our building; we'd like to greet as many visitors as possible with open doors and personal, friendly service," says Selbee.
