Gas tax bill clears Iowa Senate committee

Momentum continues to gather in support of a bill to raise Iowa's road use tax by 10 cents a gallon.

The Iowa House Transportation Committee has now voted in favor of the measure, as has the Senate Transportation Committee.

The vote in the Senate was 9-3, with Strawberry Point State Senator Michael Breitbach being among the nine who voted "yes."  The House Transportation Committee also approved the measure, with Osage State Assemblyman Josh Byrnes, the committee chairperson, among those voting in favor of the bill.

The measure would raise an additional $215 million annually to help pay to maintain maintain the roads and bridges in the state.
