City of Decorah might purchase more data breach insurance

Decorah City Council members don't think the city needs $1 million of data breach insurance--but they're not sure a $50,000 liability limit is right, either.

Decorah City Council members on Monday night will discuss whether the city government has enough coverage with their existing Data Breach Insurance.

The current level of coverage has a $50,000 liability limit with a $1,500 deductible and a $150 annual premium.  The insurance covers damage done through a data breach.  Increasing that insurance to a $1 million liability limit would cost an additional $2,700.  That idea didn't get support from city council members Monday night, but city officials will check into the cost of a $250,000 liability limit.
