A record number of Decorah HS athletes will be honored Thursday for their academic achievements

Eight Decorah HIgh School fall athletes will be recognized at Thursday's home boys basketball game as academic all-state recipients--a record number of DHS students earning the honor.

Two football players will be recognized before the basketball game for being selected for the 2014 Academic All-State Football Team--Christopher Hartman and Adam Knight.  They were among just 54 student athletes from Class 3A to receive academic all state honors from the Iowa Football Coaches Association.  Christopher is the son of Tom and Trish Hartman and Adam is the son of Dan and Stacy Knight.  

Three vollyeball players and three cross country runners will be recognized at halftime of the basketball game.  Senior volleyball players Anna Kane, Tess Olinger and Shelby Stalberger were among just 101 seniors from across the state to earn this honor from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.  Anna is the daughter of Bob and Martha Kane, Tess is the daughter of Jeff and Heidi Olinger, and Shelby is the daughter of Bob and Marianne Stalberger.  

Senior cross country runners Linnea Kephart, Maria McDonough, and Isaac Marquardt were among just 64 student athletes statewide to receive this honor from the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.  Linnea is the daughter of Jim and Ann Kephart, Maria is the daughter of Todd and Beth McDonough, and Isaac is the son of Tom and Jill Marquardt.
