Decorah Police say they were called to Highway 9 near East Ridge Road around 11:00 Friday night for a report of a two-car head-on collision.

17-year-old John William Jenkins was driving east on HIghway 9 when he became distracted as a passenger dropped an object on the floor of the car.  Jenkins crossed the center line and struck a van driven by 63-year-old Mark Werden of Postville.  Werden's van then went into the ditch on the north side of the road.  The Decorah Fire Department was called and extracted Werden from his vehicle.  Werden was seen by paramedics and released.

Jenkins has been ticketed for driving left of the centerline.  There has been no estimate yet of the damage done in the accident.
