A car and a semi were sent down an embankment on Highway 9 west of the Quality Inn following a three-vehicle collision around 4:45 Wednesday afternoon.

Decorah Police say 27-year-old Kallee Martins of Postville was travelling west on Highway 9 in a group of vehicles in the left lane when several trucks ahead of her began to brake.  As she slowed, the right rear bumper of her car was hit by a car being driven by 18-year-old Madison Hoyme of Decorah.  That collision sent her car into the right lane of the highway.

48-year-old Don Lindsey of Gilbertville, Iowa saw Hoyme's car enter his lane, but could not stop in time.  The collision forced both Lindsey's semi and Hoyme's car off the roadway and into the ditch.

A passenger in Hoyme's car, Jordyn White, suffered an apparent collarbone fracture and was taken to the emergency room at Winneshiek Medical Center.  No other drivers and passengers were injured.

The accident caused a total of $9,000 in damages, with $7,500 of that amount the damage to Hoyme's car.

No citations were issued.  Witnesses stated that a red truck possibly carying a couch had caused the chain reaction.  However, the driver of the truck was unable to be identified by witnesses.
