A Decorah woman, 23-year-old Trista Stepan, escaped from her burning car following an accident Thursday in Fayette County.
Sheriff's deputies say Stepan of Decorah was headed north on Highway 18 just north of Clermont at 6:46 p.m. Thursday when she swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of her. The car went into the ditch, through a field and a down a ravine, then crashed into a tree. The car then burst into flames.
Stepan escaped, but was taken to Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union.
