Decorah HS students perfect at District Speech Contest

At the District Large Group Speech Contest hosted by MFL MarMac High School on Saturday the Decorah HS varsity speech team received 22 division one ratings and the DHS 9th grade team received 6 division one ratings.

Approximately 200 Decorah High School students participated.  The varsity students are coached by Thomas Houdek, Molly Holkesvik, Gabe Twedt, Kristen Underwood, and Sarah Magner. The 9th grade students are coached by junior and senior speech students.

All of the groups receiving division one ratings will be participating in the Northeast District Large Group Speech State Contest hosted by Decorah High School on Saturday, February 7th. (Anyone interested in volunteering at contest is asked to contact Mary Herman at the high school.) Contest details will be available online at www.ihssa.org complete with a schedule early next week. The contest is open to the public. Three dollars is the suggested donation for admission for audience members. Coaches encourage as many family and friends as possible to support the DHS speech students as a packed house in the performance centers really encourages the students to perform their best.
