The Winneshiek County Conservation Board has been named the 2014 Outstanding Environmental Education Program with two or fewer interpreters by the Iowa Association of Naturalists and the Iowa Conservation Education Coalition. The award recognizes excellence in environmental education programming by an agency or institution.
In 2014, Winneshiek County Conservation presented more than 500 programs, teaching over 15,000 students, residents, and visitors about Winneshiek County's natural resources and engaging many of them in hands-on, outdoor experiences.
In additional to providing presentations and field experiences, Winneshiek County Conservation also coordinates the local Driftless Safari program, which is now being replicated across the state, and developed Fit Environment, a resource guide to help teachers integrate outdoor recreation and physical activity into their classrooms.
