The City of Decorah's Historic Preservation Commission wants to work on an application for downtown Decorah to be recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
Members of the Commission say tax credits of 10 percent of renovation costs on both federal and state taxes could be available if downtown properties qualify.
The Historic Preservation Commission later this year will discuss applying to the State of Iowa for financial help in covering the cost of an application to the National Register of Historic Places. The application would cost an estimated $24,000, but the city's cost would be only $4,000.
