Opening for Sheriff will be filled by appointment

It would cost an estimated $10,000 to Winneshiek County taxpayers to hold a special election to select a new Sheriff after Sheriff Leon Bohr retires on March 31st.

That estimate was enough to convince Winneshiek County supervisors Monday to approve a timetable to appoint a replacement for Bohr on April 1st.

Supervisors have agreed to post an advertisement for the opening during the week of March 16th.  Candidates are being asked to submit a letter of application, a resume and the names of two references by noon on Monday, March 23rd.  Interviews will then be scheduled for Wednesday, March 25th and the county board will meet in special session Wednesday, April 1st, to name a new sheriff.
