The Winneshiek County FSA Office is reminding farmers of the options to update their counter cyclical yield and reallocating base acres needs to be completed by February 27th.
Updating yields for corn and soybeans has not occurred since 2002. Farmers may bring their crop insurance yield data, or certify to the yield for the crop years of 2008 through 2012. Provisions are in place for low yield years or for years the farmer did not have control of a particular piece of ground.
Reallocation of base acres involves reviewing the history of planted acres of corn, oats and soybeans in the years 2009 through 2012. Farmers may accept the "reallocated acres" or retain the base as is.
Election of one of the three options for the farm program--Price Loss Coverage, Agricultural Risk Coverage-County or Agricultural Risk Coverage-Individua--will need to be completed by March 27th. Enrollment into the program will take place some time this summer. A deadline has not been announced for the enrollment.
