City council approves first three residential tax abatement applications

The Decorah City Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve tax abatement applications by three residents--the first applications filed under the recently-approved housing construction incentive program.

The incentives will go toward housing constructions that had already begun by the time the City Council gave its final approval on November 11th to the tax abatement program.  That meant City Administrator Chad Bird had to examine invoices for building materials and other information to determine what portion of the construction had already been finished.

The property owners--and the amount of their credits--are as follows:

--Dave Reicks, 300 Sunrise Boulevard, 65 percent of the value of the construction
--Jayme Folkedahl, 1105 Linden Street for property at 1203 and 1205 Walnut Street, 80 percent of the value.of the construction
--Adam Kubcushek, 1813 Division Street, 50 percent of the value of the construction.
