Helpline Iowa will assist those who are giving up smoking

Posted: Mon, Jan 5, 2015 5:12 PM

New Year resolutions are common this time of year and some of them are sincerely made, but hard to keep--especially the resolution to stop smoking.

Support for Northeast Iowans wanting to stop smoking is available through Quitline Iowa. The no-cost program is offering eight weeks of nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum or lozenges) to eligible participants.

Quitline Iowa helps to develop an individualized quitting plan aimed at determining which approach is best to help people stay tobacco-free.  The program also provides tips and support on living in a smoke-free environment and offers advice and information on medications that may help with withdrawal symptoms.

Iowa residents can take advantage of the program by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669), or visiting www.quitlineiowa.org to enroll.
