The figures are in--and Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says 2014 will go into the books as cold and wet in Decorah.
Bernatz says the average temperature in Decorah in 2014 was 44.1 degrees. That's 2.1 degrees cooler than normal, making 2014 the 13th coldest year on record for the 105 years for which Decorah temperatures have been kept.
While seven out of 12 months had colder than average temperatures, last February was the really chilly month, with an average temperature of 7.6 degrees--12.3 degrees cooler than normal.
2014 was also the 39th wettest year on record out of the 115 years for which precipitation figures were kept. 35.65 inches of precipitation fell in Decorah during 2014, including 8.65 inches of rain in June and 6.90 inches of precipitation in April. 2014 closed out with 2.77 inches more of precipitation than normal.
