Further information about how gasoline prices work

Posted: Tue, Dec 30, 2014 2:29 PM

(Our recent story about gas prices sinking below $2.00 a gallon in Winneshiek County included comments made by customers at the Kwik Star station in Calmar.  One of our readers has e-mailed additional information following comments by one of the customers about ethanol prices)

ALL gas in Minnesota is required to be blended with at least 10 percent ethanol.  You can find more about it here: http://www.mda.state.mn.us/ethanol/   In Iowa gasoline retailers are eligible for a 2.5 cent tax rebate if 60 percent or more of their gas sold contains ethanol.  That information is here https://tax.iowa.gov/sites/files/idr/Taxcreditsfuel2014.pdf   .

(We appreciate EVERY e-mail from our readers.  Thanks to everyone for making decorahnews.com truly a community project!)
