Here's a Christmas present for you: the price of a gallon of gas in Winneshiek County has fallen below $2.00.
The Kwik Star station in Calmar lowered its price to $1.99 a gallon on Wednesday, with the Kwik Star station in Decorah following the lead on Friday morning.
It is an astonishing development, since gas prices were almost $3.50 a gallon less than six months ago.
In Calmar, customers at the Kwik Star were pleased with the price drop. West Union resident Eric Robrock told decorahnews.com, "It's where it's got to be." Urbandale resident Adam Bullerman said gas prices in his home town sank below $2/gallon a week ago, but he was still happy to fill up for that price in Calmar.
Robrock also wondered if gas prices could fall even more--noting that regular gas in Minnesota is cheaper than it is in Iowa, although ethanol gas is more expensive becase Iowa has a greater subsidy. Robrock says the cheaper gas price would make it easier for his family to take a trip to Wisconsin.
