Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area has awarded over $9,500 in grants to 35 school districts in Iowa, including North Winneshiek and St. Benedict's School, to pay the busing costs of taking students to visit 18 different agricultural experiences.
"By visiting cultural and farm sites here in Iowa, students see the stories of America's agriculture brought to life," commented Silos and Smokestacks President Don Short,
The bus grants have a maximum value of $350. They are awarded on a first-received, first-funded basis to accredited Pre K-12 public, private or charter schools located in the Silos and Smokestacks Heritage Area.
Since the program started in 2007, over 14,000 students have been able to explore American agriculture.
