Longtime Mabe's Pizza owner Don White has died

Longtime Mabe's Pizza owner Don White of Decorah died Saturday night at the age of 77.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27th, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah.

"Mabel's Lunchroom" was founded in 1953 on College Drive in Decorah by White's mother, Mabel White, who began offering pizza as a menu item based on a request by a Luther College student.  Don White and his late wife, Maime, took over the restaurant in 1981.  In 1999, Don's oldest son, Steve White, and his wife, Connie, took over the operation of the business.
