A group of around 90 Decorah residents gathered in light misty rain on Saturday afternoon in front of the Winneshiek County Courthouse. The group sang songs and heard speeches about the recent deaths of blacks in New York, Cleveland and Ferguson, Missouri--and the lack of grand jury action against the police officers involved in the deaths.
The group gathered Saturday because of the words of one of the songs they sang: "We who believe in freedom cannot rest."
Speaker Matt Tapscott told the group, "These issues are United States of America issues of freedom. How we respond defines who we are as a country."
Participants signed a petition to send to elected officials.
