(Note: decorahnews.com posted a Letter to the Editor from Winneshiek County Protectors on Thursday which suggested the County Planning & ZOning Commission could do a better job of notifying the public of its deliberations: http://www.decorahnews.com/news-stories/2014/12/9702.html. Kevin Lee of Freeport has submitted a Letter of Editor in response):
I recently attended the Winneshiek County Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing about amendments to the zoning ordinance. I and others had constructive comments to be heard and were received in an open and very respectful manner. I have sat on various commissions and boards in the past and was impressed at the detail and fine consideration the Commission members exhibited. There is a considerable amount of volunteer work that goes into the commission and in most situations public interaction may be with complaint of one of the details in the ordinance.
Thank you Commission for volunteering and doing a comprehensive job to the best of ability. As it was said at the hearing "The ordinance is a living document." It can change with the needs of the county.
