Marijuana, pharmaceuticals and methamphetamine are the biggest drug problems in NE Iowa

A report by the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department and the Northeast Iowsa Drug Task Force says the biggest drug problems in the five county area of Northeast Iowa are marijuana, methamphetamine and prescription drugs.  The report also says "Drugs such as heroin and cocaine have shown no increases in the area."

The report says a total of 538 drug charges have been filed in Winneshiek, Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette and Chickasaw counties in the last 15 months.  None of those charges have involved heroin or cocaine.

Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies say information from the public is how a large percentage of crime is discovered and investigated.  More detailed information about drug activity can be obtained by contacting either Deputy Gordon Buss or Chief Deputy Greg Torgrim at the Sheriff's Department.
