Ask Mr. Answer Person: "What Decorah restaurants will be open on Thanksgiving Day?"

(Wendy send this timely e-mail question: "We will traveling on Thanksgiving day, in the Decorah area, wondering what restaurants will be open....any help would be appreciated.)

Mr. Answer Person says: "It's not just travelers who are interested in this information--the elderly and single people also want to eat at a restaurant on Thanksgiving Day.

First of all, the Decorah Methodist Church will again host a Community Thanksgiving Dinner at noon Thursday in the church's basement Fellowship Hall.  Turkey, dressing and a beverage will be provided--bring a covered dish to share. 

Secondly, three Decorah restaurants will be open on Thursday.  Stone Hearth Inn will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, with reservations STRONGLY advised!  Restauration at Hotel Winneshiek will also be serving a Thanksgiving buffet.  Contact the hotel for more information.  Mabe's will be open Thanksgiving evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Finally, it takes lots of hard work to run a restaurant, so many restaurant owners give their staffs the day off on Thanksgiving.  Here, as a public service, are the holiday hours for most Decorah restaurants:

--Culver's will be closed Thanksgiving Day.
--Don Jose will be closed Thanksgiving Day
--Family Table is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day.  On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve they are open until 2:00 p.m.--so please pick your pies up before that!
--Good Times Grill  will be closed Thanksgiving, Christmas eve and Christmas day, open New Year's eve and closed New Year's day.
--La Rana will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Day, and New Year's Day.
--Mabe's Open 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.  Open 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Christmas Eve.  Open 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Christmas night.  Open New Year's Eve 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.  Open New Year's Day 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
--Mc Caffrey's will be closed Thanksgiving and Christmas, but will be open New Year's Eve.
--Old Armory BBQ will be closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but open New Year's Eve
--Oneota Food Co-op is closed all day on Thanksgiving.  Christmas Eve hours are 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Closed on Christmas day.  Same schedule for New Year's eve and New Year's day.
--Pizza Ranch will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.  Christmas Eve will serve lunch buffet until 1:00 p.m.  Closed on Christmas Day.
--Rubaiyat is closed Thanksgiving day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, day after Christmas and New Year's Day, but open New Year's Eve!
--Ruby's is closed Thanksgiving day, closes at noon Christmas eve and are closed Christmas day.  New Year's eve open until 3:00 p.m.  Closed New Year's day.
--Stone Hearth Inn is open 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Day (Reservations STRONGLY advised)  Open from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed on Christmas day, open New Year's Eve from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and closed on New year's Day.
--T-Bock's will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.  Will close at 2:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve.  On Christmas Day Joe Price will perform upstairs from 8:00 p.m. until midnight.  Closed on New Years Day unless Iowa is in a bowl game.
