Decora residents Gary and Deb Hackman are members of a historical re-enactment group called "La Compagnie Frenche de las Marine du Fort La Jonquiere."

They visited recently with members of the Northeast Iowa chapter of the DAR to describe their work portraying the activities of a French marine detachment which was active circa 1750 on the Mississippi River in the Lake Pepin area.  The purpose of the military unit in the area was to pacify the Sioux and act as an expeditionary force to identify resources to enhance the economy of France.  Their presence in the area was short lived as the unit was called back to the east to participate in the French and Indian War.

The Hackmans shared videos of their activities, described the costumes they were wearing, displayed weapons of the era and spoke of Captain and Madam Gerard whom they represent in the re-enactments.
