Cash for (bus) clunkers?

While in the process of approving two bids for school buses, the Decorah School Board heard about the administration's application for a an EPA program the could reimburse $20,000 per bus, for buses that are pre 2003 models and are verified to have been put out of service, that is, made totally inoperable. The district should find out in December if they are granted the two refunds. Buses would need to be replaced with 2014 or newer "clean diesel" models.

Bids were approved for approximately $90K to Hoglund Bus for a 77 passenger bus, and $106K to School Bus Sales of Waterloo for an 84 passenger bus.
