"Accolades to the Decorah Bank & Trust Co. and Cresco Bank & Trust Co. who have made a donation of $100,000 to Northeast Iowa Community College's "Campaign for Excellence."
One of the major dysfunctions in our current economy is the lack of trained workers. A second industrial revolution is in our midst. Wagon wheels and horse collars are out and the "new" is here. Politicians decry the large number of unemployed and underemployed. Lack of education is a primary problem for this group.
Education has never been more important. The end of WWII brought a need for educating returning veterans to meet the new economy. The GI Bill was hugely successful in educational training for the post war economy. That very stimulus is desperately needed now. Scholarship commitments are also an important factor in meeting the goal to provide a skilled workforce.
Lastly, state and federal governments must realize educated workers are skilled workers that benefit society and the economy. Robbing educational budgets short change everyone. It's time to re-generate the system."
