The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says it has responded to over 50 car versus deer accidents on Winneshiek County roads since October 1st.
Deputy Dan Marx, who has responded to many of the accidents, says the public should be cautious when driving, especially during the morning and evening hours when deer are the most active.
Says Marx, :Deer are on the move this time of year, especially in these next few weeks. As you are driving, please slow down and scan the ditches and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you."
Marx says if a deer crosses your path, do NOT swerve to avoid hitting the deer, since swerving can cause a more serious accident, possibly including injury.
