With the election of Joni Ernst to the U.S. Senate, Rod Blum to the U.S. House of Representatives and Darrel Branhagen to the Iowa House of Representatives on Tuesday, Winneshiek County Republicans have a lot to be pleased about.
County Republican Party chair Thomas Hansen says "The message has finally gotten out to people that government should live within its constitutional limits."
Winneshiek County Republicans seemed to participate in greater numbers in this year's election than did their Democratic counterparts, turning up in large numbers as Republican politicians like Ernst and Blum and Governor Terry Branstad came to Decorah to speak. Hansen says he's pleased the statewide candidates came to Decorah. "In a close race, rural communities can win a race for you," he says. That proves that every voter is important, says Hansen.
