The Decorah City Council has approved a five-year road plan that gives priority to work on Locust Road.
City Street Committee Chair Gary Rustad says the plan calls for no major projects during 2015. However, repaving Locust Road would be the priority after 2015.
Monday night's approval of the five-year street plan came over the objection of city council member Randy Schissel, who criticized what he termed "a piecemeal approach" to repaving Locust Road. Schissel wants the city to wait and pave all of Locust Road from College Drive to the city's north boundary. "We'd be better off waiting until after Short Street is paid off," he said.
The five-year street plan is just that--a plan--and not a firm schedule, so Schissel will probably get a chance to discuss the issue again in the future.
