The number one topic among Winneshiek County Democrats on Sunday morning was a Des Moines Register poll that said Republican Joni Ernst led Democrat Bruce Braley by seven percentage points in the race for U.S. Senate in Iowa.
Current U.S. Senator Tom Harkin told the Democrats the newspaper got it wrong. He said there have been six other polls this week--two of which said Braely was leading by a percentage point or two, two of which said Ernst was leading by a point or two and two which said the race is deadlocked.
"It just doesn't fit," he said of the Register poll's results, calling it an "outlier." Harkin says the result of Tuesday's U.S. Senate election will depend on which political party does the best job of getting all its votes in.
