The National Alliance on Mental Illness, a national support organization for both people living with mental illness and the families and friends of those living with mental illness, will be sponoring an upcoming class in Decorah called "NAMI Basics." It will be held in Decorah on Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., beginning November 11th.
It is a free class for parents/caregivers who have a child or adolescent with behavioral health or mental health concerns. Examples of diagnoses would include Attention Deficit, Oppositional Defiance, Obsessive Compulsive, Autism Spectrum, Anxiety and Depression. The class is designed to provide caregivers with up-to-date information about mental illness and treatment options, and to provide support from a community of people who understand what you as a caregiver are going through. This 6-week class is led by NAMI-trained volunteers who have personal experience parenting a child with similar concerns.
