The Decorah Public Library has announced plans for a public discussion of Sarah Griffith Lund's new memoir, "Blessed are the crazy: breaking the silence about mental illness, family, and church."

The December 8th discussion will be led by Jan Heikes, Reverend Laura Arnold and  author Sarah Griffith Lund (via Skype).  Anyone interested may borrow a book from the library or purchase a copy from a local bookseller.

Author Sarah Griffith Lund is current Vice President at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She has served churches in Brooklyn, New York, Minneapolis, and New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  In "Blessed Are the Crazy," Lund shares a raw, honest account of her experiences with three family members who deal with mental illness.

Facilitator Jan Heikes has been a social worker for three decades, including 17 years as Mental Health & Disability Services Administrator for Winneshiek County and later for Allamakee County as well. She currently works for the Iowa Department of Human Services in the Mental Health and Disability Services division.

Facilitator Pastor Laura Arnold began serving at the Decorah UCC church in January of 2013.  She and her partner, Karen, moved to Decorah from Atlanta, Georgia, where Laura served as a hospital chaplain and as the Associate Minister for Theological Education for the Southeast Conference of the UCC.
