Last year decorahnews.com wrote--in response to a reader's question--that it is NOT illegal for hunters to use the Trout Run Trail. As we explained (http://www.decorahnews.com/archived-stories/2013/09/6408.html), part of the biking and hiking trail goes through Iowa DNR game management property. Such property by law is open to hunting, trapping, and fishing (Although there is no hunting allowed on the trail itself)
Signs were put up last year along Trout Run Trail urging users to "Share the Resource." But with the shotgun deer season starting December 6th and running (with a two-day break) through December 21st, this year the Trails of Winneshiek 28e Committee members want to have even more explicit warnings.
Temporary signs will be put up in December warning that it is deer hunting season. The signs will be posted only on the portions of Trout Run Trail that lies outside the Decorah city limits--hunting is not allowed inside the city.
