Absentee voting sets a record for non-presidential election

If you have already voted in the November 4th election by casting an absentee ballot, you're not alone.

As of Monday afternoon, the Winneshiek County Auditor's Office had received 3,664 requests for absentee ballots.  With one week to go to the election, that total already surpasses the number of absentee ballots requested in 2010.

1,117 of those absentee votes have been cast at the Auditor's Office at the courthouse.  The office will be open its regular business hours the rest of this week for absentee balloting, then from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday.

If you want to cast an absentee ballot by mail, however, you need to file a request by 5:00 p.m. Friday--to give the Auditor's Office time to mail your ballot and for your ballot to be mailed back.
