Area law enforcement officers were busy over the weekend.
On Friday morning--as reported earlier by decorahnews.com--a two-car collision took place around 8:00 a.m. on Locust Road at Meadowlark Road.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says both drivers were taken to Winneshiek Medical Center by the Winneshiek County Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
More information about the accident--including the names of the drivers--will be released soon. In the meantime, law enforcement officers say the accident remains under investigation.
Later on Friday--around 1:00 p.m.--Decorah Police were called to Wal-Mart, where they arrested 26-year-old Kathryn Allen of Cresco on Shoplifting charges.
Then on Saturday Decorah Police responded to three traffic accidents.
Around 10:30 a.m. a car being driven on Montgomery Street by 55-year-old Daniel Henning of Calmar suffered $2,000 in damages when it was struck by a deer.
Around 5:45 p.m. 18-year-old Jordan Nelson of Decorah was ticketed for failure to yield when he struck a car being driven by 43-year-old John Holm of Decorah. The accident, which occurred at Valley Drive and Ohio Street, caused a total of $4,500 in damages. Neither driver was injured.
Around 6:30 p.m. police were called to Fifth Avenue, where a parked car owned by Alan Sand of Decorah was struck by a hit-and-run driver. A neighbor said he saw a black truck pulling away from the parked car after the crash.
Police contacted 37-year-old David Gerber of Decorah, who lived nearby and owned a black truck. Gerber said he didn't realize he had hit the car, but police saw signs of damage to Gerber's vehicle.
The accident caused $5,500 in damages.
