Winneshiek County 4-Hers get an up close look at our judicial system

Posted: Wed, Oct 22, 2014 1:14 PM

More than 40 4-H members from Winneshiek, Allamakee, Howard and Mitchell counties recently got help in learning about Iowa's court system from Judge Bryan McKinley, the retired Second District Assistant Chief Judge.

Judge McKinley discussed the federal and state judicial systems by using real-life examples.  He closed his presentation by reminding youth of one thing, "It's not what others do to you that determines what you do in life, it is what you do!"

The 4-Hers taking part in the program are part of a two-year 4-H Citizenship Project with ISU Extension and Outreach in northeast Iowa.  The first year of the project focuses on local, area and state government while the second year focuses on the federal government.

For more information on the 4-H Citizenship Project or how to join 4-H, contact Trevor Rockwell at the Winneshiek County ISU Extension Office at 563-382-2949.
