(The Letter to the Editor submitted by Randall Haugen of Decorah has prompted responses from Judy Ehler of Ossian and Mike Rothwell of rural Decorah):
Judy Ehler:
"Obviously Randall is a Democrat. I agree with his statement about the horrible political ads. However, his last sentence is what he believes and that is SCARY! (His last sentence--"The Supreme Court says this is free speech, This must be STOPPED and will not be with a Republican majority in charge") Where else in the world can you state what you believe or put out stupid ads and not be arrested, jailed or possibly killed for disagreeing with others? The American people are very intelligent and they know, for the most part, what is true or false by how society is running."
Mike Rothwell:
"I thought Randall was pretty much hitting the nail on the head in his letter to the editor...until his last sentence: "The Supreme Court says this is free speech, This Must be stopped and Will Not be with a Republican Majority in charge."
Excuse me, Randall. Who's in charge now? Who has allowed this to become like it has? I cordially rebuke your claim that Republicans are the problem here. I agree the situation is terrible, but to end your argument with a slam against your opposing political party is just pure nonsense. Your comment is baseless and you talk about "lying politicians?"
I think it would be a good idea for people on both sides of the aisle to quit the 'blame game' for whatever woes they want to gripe about and work Together in finding solutions vs. perpetuating what amounts to school yard childish immaturity"
