Snowmobile club gets new trail groomer

The Trails Unlimited Snowmobile Club has received a new trail groomer, thanks to the Iowa State Snowmobile Association and the Iowa DNR.

Most snowmobile trail groomers used in Northeast Iowa are owned by the Iowa DNR, but the state agency solicits the input of the ISSA to determine where to send groomers.  The groomers are then put in the direct control of the local clubs.  It is the local club's responsibility to take care of the machine and treat it as their own.

Says Trails Unlimited Club President Bud Winter, "There isn't an exact science to where and when clubs will get new or updated machines.  As a general rule, clubs with the most miles of trails, most heavily traveled trails and active club participation are those who see updated equipment most often."

"The groomer our club had last year was simply not capable to do the job," said Winter. "We made sure to communicate this major issue to ISSA."

Trails Unlimited has committed to contributing $10,000 to the snowmobile groomer program.  Fundraising, club sponsorships and donations will be sought.
